Alaska is a vast land of breathtaking beauty and unspoiled wilderness. Our introduction to this state was through a Holland America Sea and Land excursion, which we highly recommend. We went with other family members, which enhanced the journey even more.
This trip exposed us to the wonderfully broad variety of landscapes, wildlife, and culture that Alaska has to offer, and we had a fabulous time.
We started by exploring the larger cities of Fairbanks and Anchorage, then took the train to the wondrous Denali National Park. Here we saw bears, moose, bison, and lots of other animals, as well as the beautiful Mount McKinley.
We then boarded our cruise ship for am incredibly scenic 7-day journey through fjords with snow capped mountains and close-up views of glaciers, exploration of quaint towns, and unparalleled excursion options. The excursions we chose included a walk on a glacier, a float plane out to a remote bear viewing site to observe brown bears salmon fishing, and taking a helicopter out to a flat glacial plane to a dog sledding training camp to go dog sledding (one of Eliza’s bucket list items).
