Mont Blanc route mapAlps Hike ViewThe Mont Blanc region of the Alps is located in the western edge of France near Chamonix where we started our trek. The peak of Mt Blanc is at 15,551 feet with seven valleys radiating from the massif.

Our August, 2001 trip hosted by Wilderness Travel, took us up and over the successive cols and into deep valleys in three countries: France, Italy, and Switzerland. Altogether we walked just under 100 miles of steep yet gorgeous alpine terrain. Each of the 10 days included ascents and descents of up to 4000 feet each day.

This was an all around favorite trip for both of us, with treks each day that both challenged and exhilarated, spectacular scenery, and mountain refuges and villages demonstrating the distinct lifestyles of  each of the three countries.

We ended our trip with a few days in Geneva, Switzerland.
